The Thief is the master of shadows and sneak attack warfare. Getting in range to do as much damage as possible and getting out is the Thief's specialty. While not very good in a straight up fight trading blows the Thief excels at ranged combat and surprise attacks. PROFESSION MECHANICS Resource: Initiative Skills: List of Thief Skills Traits: List of Traits Armor Class: Medium Weapons: Main Hand: Pistol, Dagger or Sword Off Hand: Pistol or Dagger Two Handed: Shortbow Underwater: Speargun or Harpoon INITIATIVE Attacking with the Thief is different as many of this profession's Weapon skills do not recharge instead they use Initiative. Initiative is a meter that is represented with 10 lit orbs that recharge at a rate of 1 orb per second (shown below in the picture). As skills get used a certain amount of Initiative is consumed and when it runs out the player will have to wait until it recharges. Note: The Auto-Attack skill doesn't consume Initiative as well as the Utility, Thief Heal or Elite skills, instead these skills have to recharge. STEALTH Stealth is one of the Thief's most notable skills. Stealth skills turn the Thief invisible for a short period of time allowing him to escape combat or heal. Stealth skills are expensive to use and only last a short period of time so use them wisely. SHADOW STEPPING Shadow Stepping is another skill that resembles stealth but instead teleports the Thief to different point nearby and back again. This skill is used for guerilla tactics to get the Thief into attack range to do damage and then quickly retreat to safety. STEALING The steal skill allows the Thief to confiscate an environmental weapon item from an enemy which changes the weapon skills to the appropriate item stolen. Example: While fighting a lumbering Oakheart (tree monster) the Thief can steal a branch off of it and use it as a weapon against the beast. Note: Stolen items do have a certain number of uses before they are destroyed. DUAL WEAPON SKILLS Only available to the Thief profession are Dual Skills. These are skills that actually change based on the Main Hand and Off Hand weapons the Thief is currently using. The order the weapons are in also change this combined weapon skill. Example a Pistol in the Main Hand and a Dagger in the Off Hand produces a different skill than a Dagger in the Main Hand and a Pistol in the Off Hand. DODGING Dodging is second nature to a Thief because of their low health and armor class. Dodging is not infinite as there is an Endurance meter shown below that is used up as the player dodges. The meter refills over time. Note: All Professions in Guild Wars 2 have an Endurance meter and can Dodge.
